Thinking of Jeff

My friend is dying. He doesn't have long. I am saddened at the thought of his pain and struggles, but grateful to have known him when he was hale. I can hear his deep, sincere and resounding laugh as we shared stories of our own stupidity and good fortune to have made it this far.

Yesterday is history
Tomorrow is a mystery
Today is a gift
That is why they call it "the present"

Meat Butter

If there is anything more delicious than the chicken liver mousse (a.k.a. meat butter) at Local Three I have not tasted it yet. I would eat a pint of this manna from heaven, in lieu of Hagen Daas anyday.

The Great White South

Another day trapped inside the giant sheet of ice covering Metro Atlanta. There's a dripping sound out there. Maybe the thaw has started. The bread and milk supplies will last at least another day. WiFi at the house has made the entrapment bareable, but daytime TV sucks!

A Real Snow Day

The driveway and streets have been a virtual ice rink since late last night. Working from the couch with the laptop, iPhone and a glass of wine makes for improved morale amongst the workforce.

Snowmania in the Deep South

The crawl along the bottom of the sceen, on all the local channels, is warning of 3-6" of snow on Monday. As usual people are freaking out. Bread, milk, eggs and bottled water were in short supply at the grocery store today. WTF?

The First Sunday of the Year

Sometimes it's nice to just hold the couch down for a day and do nothing productive, whatsoever. Three full length soccer matches, "Why yes, I think I will!". Blogging for hours, "Mmm  Hhhmm!"

A few short trips away from the couch to fashion chorizo-egg-potato-cheese-onion-jalapeno-cilantro burritos, make coffee, take care of business (while doing the Sunday NYT crossword) and to clean the small sweaters from my chompers.

All-in-all an exhausting way to spend a day. A nap is required after completing an agenda like that.

The sense of dread, brought on by the impending week and the return to work, has not set in.... yet. It's a new year! There's been much holiday cheer. My mind is clear, and I'm ready to accept new challenges... and tolerate the old ones.
